Studio speakers
Please someone tell me if I need some sort of interface for monitoring with studio monitors through auria off an iPad pro. Can I not simply plug powered studio monitors right out of my iPad direct?
Re: Studio speakers
Hi,
If you are wanting to use studio speakers that have XLR or 1/4" inputs, then yes, you would want to use a USB interface with outputs you can connect to the speakers and control the volume. If you wanted to just use your iPad without an interface then you can get computer speakers that are meant to be connected through a stereo 1/8" cable directly to your iPad.

What can I expect from the computer monitors. Not a whole lot I suspect. What do recommend? I'm doing some recording as a hobby but of course I'd like a decent mix? Help?
Re: Studio speakers
For high quality monitoring, you can expect sub-par results from computer speakers. However, it is always worth having some for checking your mixes on different sources. No matter what kind of speakers you go with, listen to your favorite albums you have heard a million times to know how the speakers sound and respond to different frequencies.

I dont use a usb interface with my studio monitors. I have a cable that splits from 1/8" jack to rca (i think dual mono) then i have two rca to 1/4" adapters snapped on there. It would be nice if i had an apogee duet but it isnt at all necessary for using studio monitors.

Re: Studio speakers
If you're going to monitor through speakers connected to the headphone jack, you'll get far more accurate results if you turn off "Built-In Speaker/Mic Processing" in Auria's settings. The iPad's headphone out processes the outgoing signal by default.

Let me get this straight, if I want Yamaha hs5, or say rokit 5 G3, I do not need an interface?
But if I don't have an interface I should change the headphone jack settings?

Re: Studio speakers
That's right. With no interface you'd also need a 1/8 to either xlr, 1/4 inch, or rca cable, depending on the monitors' input.Skippy567 wrote:Let me get this straight, if I want Yamaha hs5, or say rokit 5 G3, I do not need an interface?

Re: Studio speakers
Or if you have a simple mixer (8-12 ch) use a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter on one of the mixer channels and route the outs to your powered monitors.
Re: Studio speakers
I have a pair of Mackie MR5 active nearfield monitors that I mix on constantly with just a splitter cable from my iPad Air2 straight into them. Cable is stereo 3.5mm Jack to 2x 6.35mm standard Jack. Works perfectly. No interface required.
