Cost of apps
Cost of apps
I notice that when apps are listed on US outlets they may be $9.99 but when they are then shown in Britain they are still £9.99 why is this? The pound is worth $1.25 so why is there parity when we fork out? For example is the new Pro R app only $39.99 in the US and £39.99 here? Or am I wrong here!

Re: Cost of apps
US prices don't include sales tax, whereas UK prices have to include VAT, so that's where the 20% bump is coming from.

Re: Cost of apps
Apple hiked up UK prices last month to allow for the decline of the pound against the dollar. It was supposed to be 25% but I have seen 30%+ In reality it was just an excuse to increase revenue overnight because as you rightly say, £1 does not equal $1 or €1. Given the true exchange rate, Pro R now costs $49.99 in the UK, $42.99 in Europe while in the US it is $39.99.
You can be 100% certain that Apple won't put it back if the exchange rate ever improves for the pound. They did it because they can.
I for one have cut back on my random buys to try out new apps. I will still spend the same as before but be more selective on what I buy.
On the bright side, it's helped to cure me of my "buy an app, try it out and never use it again" syndrome.
