I want transport control with one of my old midi devices

Post by ScottSunn » Fri Dec 29, 2017 8:09 am

What is the best inexpensive device to use with Auria?

I want to:

start stop record loop select different channels etc
also
control faders
bonus points for some mappable knobs / faders for plugins etc

USB controllers I currently own:
Behringer BCF2000
Akai APC40
Adai LPD8 (older, wired, black)
Korg MicroKontrol
NI Maschine Mk 2
Korg Nano control
Korg Nano key
NI Traktor z1
NI Traktor s4
NI Traktor s5

Will any of these get me some start/stop/record/faders etc in auria? I haven't found much luck yet...

Excited to get this working.

Thinking of selling off a few old controllers and picking up a Behringer xtouch or presonus faderport... But I'd rather use one of the controllers I have that is collecting dust.

So, either point me to a new controller, or show me how to use one of my old ones. Thanks so much, I'll give whoever gets me some hands on control of auria I will send a few satoshis of bitcoin for their effort :)

APC40 is MK 1
BCF2000 is ancient, prob mk1
Nanos are all MK1

Scott,
Do you have the Korg nanoKONTROL2 or the Korg nanoKONTROL Studio?

Audio is working nicely with a Novation AudioHub 2x4, love it...

I have the old plain 'NanoKontrol' - the blue and white one that came out ages ago.

The Korg nanoKontrol mk1 that you have can be run in HUI/Pro Tools mode and will get you transport, fader and pan control. Not sure what the 2 channel pads will be auto-mapped to, possibly mute/solo.

I am trying to find instructions for you to boot the Kontrol mk1 into Pro Tools mode. Once that is done all you should have to do is change the Remote Protocol in Auria's Settings (MIDI tab) to 'Mackie HUI'

I'd love to get that nanokontrol to work for mobile stuff, but for studio - the APC40 would be amazing.

Honestly I don't care which I use, I suppose if I'm going with the APC40 I'd have to figure out how to get it to speak one of the mackie control languages.

If Auria did a quick 'midi learn' update it would likely solve all my worries....

Looks like you have to use the Korg editing software on a Mac or PC to put the nanoKontrol into HUI/Pro Tools mode. You can get the software from here:

I tried the Korg editing software, no dice yet... could be user error...

Sorry, I don't have a mk1 nanoKontrol to walk you through it. I was trying to piece together some info that I found online. I only have the nanoKontrol Studio which offers on board switching of the function/DAW maps, no Mac or PC needed.

I have and old korg soundlink 168rc "digital" mixer. I wonder if that would control Auria pro. May be fun to try since it hasnt been turned on in like 10 years!

Doesn't the behringer bcf do mackie control or hui? If I remember right there is a way to boot it into mackie mode on startup by holding down certain buttons. I don't have one though so I can't give specifics, sorry.
