iPad 2017 (Non-Pro) Any issues?

Post by rayetheridge » Thu Jul 13, 2017 9:58 am

Im getting back into Auria and its been awhile. I currently own use the new iPad (2017) and Focusrite 2i2 (1st Gen)

Last i tried to use this setup, it did not work with my 2i2 but it DID work on my older New iPad (4th Gen) using the old CCK without any issues using a powered USB Hub.

Is it time to upgrade my 2i2 or is this due to my CCK (USB to Lightning) being possibly dated due to this being the new 2017 iPad? I purchased this CCK last year with my iPhone 6 so it maybe the issue? ( https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD82 ... ra-adapter ).

So far the only issues we have confirmed with the 2017 non-pro iPad are with the MFi connected Focusrite iTrack series of interfaces.
Your 2i2 should work, you may need to upgrade your CCK to the newer USB3 version: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0W ... ra-adapter

I'm guessing this charges the iPad while also using it? Does this not need a powered hub? I was able to get it to work with my setup again but I was not able to monitor myself and it would cut out and stop recording midway through a demo track. Then again, I have not used this setup (2i2 + Belkin powered HUB + CCK) since my iPad (2014) with the 30 pin so I maybe doing this wrong since the new GUI.

Yes, the USB3 CCK does allow you to charge the iPad while you also have a peripheral connected to the USB port. In most cases this will allow you to eliminate your USB powered hub.
