Compressor with minimum attack
Compressor with minimum attack
I want to ask Anthony, Rim or ather specialists on this forum
Why compressors in Auria can't work in limit mode
I made soma experiments (see screen Short)
All compressors have minimum attack (0,1ms or 0,005ms for Pro-C2) and extreme Cain reduction 8-12db
And in result I always have peaks
Can Anybody say and explain is it normal ?

Re: Compressor with minimum attack
Ok so your plugin is PsP Oldtimer compressor and you trying to remove all peaks of an audio wave with the compressor at a ratio of 10. Did you record the track with the compressor active live. In other words did you long press on the track record light and choose Record Effects? Cheers
Re: Compressor with minimum attack
I used five different compressors and recorded signal from master (if I will make mix down the result same)
Compressors:
Standard channel strip CMP Attack 0.1ms ratio lim
Standard BUS compressor same settings
Pro C2 with 0.005ms attack
FXPansion Bus compressor
And OldTimer
I can't understand why I have small peak at the start of signal
Is it normal for all this compressors in limit mode?

Re: Compressor with minimum attack
Yes this is normal as a compressor can tame the attack of a transient but not totally remove it. At some point a sound must begin and even though the compressor has attenated it , it still must allow some form of start transient or you wouldnt hear anything. Removal of all attack transients would equal in theroy to removing tha sound completely.
In Recording and mixing it is important to use your ears as the meters and graphs in Daws are only references and wont reveal the whole picture. Your ears will tell you if it sounds right regadless of what you might see graphically. Cheers.

Thank you Anthony!
I hoped that pro-C2 can work like limeter and soft clipper...

Have you tried enabling Lookahead in Pro C 2?
If you look along the bottom of the Pro C 2 window there is some small text that says "lookahead off", tap there to turn it on and increase the lookahead value to maximum and see if that helps.

I forgot about this wonderful function
It works better in punch mode (for drums)
0.5 ms is enough
