Restoring from iPad Air2 to iPad Pro

Post by Trentsongs » Mon May 02, 2016 9:54 pm

So, now I have an iPad Pro 12.9". (BTW, Auria Pro's beautiful GUI was my main motivation to upgrade to this beast). I did a full backup of my iPad Air 2 directly to iTunes on a PC. I also saved some of my projects from Auria Pro to my Sandisk iXpand.

What is the best way to restore to the new iPad Pro so that all my settings, installed Lyra instruments and plugins will be the same on both iPads and as a result play projects correctly? Will other apps also retain their settings if I simply do a full restore through iTunes or is it better to restore the iPad then re-install each app individually from the iTunes backup?

Or is it better to restore the whole thing via iCloud?

Heh.

I just went through this over the weekend.

I backed up the old one via iTunes ( encrypt local backup ( not to the "cloud" ) to save the most stuff)

Restored the backup to the new Pro.

Much was there as expected, some was not...

I had to reload a few apps from the App Store.

I had to reload IAP content in most apps.

I had to completely reload FLAC player ( ~130Gb music files ), which was the largest PITA of the project.

I had to check all the apps that log in anywhere and reenter passwords in some cases.

I got a few messages/warnings/emails regarding logging in on new device...

It wasn't that bad, really.

Super glad I did it, love the 4Gb RAM. No pops, glitches, latencies or other weirdness from stacking things.

Pencil is really cool as well.

Haven't got to playing around with Auria much, yet, hopefully this week.

Really looking forward to it.

I wish there was still a way to do a proper, complete backup of system, apps & data under IOS/OSX/iTunes

For some reason Apple changed that since I upgraded to the Air 2 a few years ago.

You'll probably have to move things manually to get everything in place on both iPads unless you are lucky.

Good luck...

What about samples I had installed via iFunboc, will they restore?

Automagically?

I have no clue.

Be sure to save them somewhere like dropbox where you can easily reload them...

Does iFunbox even still work with iOS 9?

I haven't tried it for awhile...

So when you restore backup from itunes from a fresh install it will install samples in app purchases an projects and settings like automation and samples used in the project? So it clones Auria? This is key for me as Im buying a second 13 inch ipad pro

I had to find and manually restore a few things.

I had to "restore purchases" in several apps, including Auria

I'd make sure copies of all your personal content like samples and tracks were readily available somewhere else like the cloud or another host in your network.

It was definitely not seamless for me.

YMMV
