Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
Hey gang,
I've been reading the features for the Twin 2 synth plugin and find myself wanting to hear other peoples views. The reviews I've read regarding the plugin that was released about 6 years ago all seem fairly positive, espescially about the
filter quality and the ease of use and the extensive modulation routing section.
I am excited from the reviews and demo vid's out there. This seems to be a very capable "bread and butter" synth.
Here's the Fabfilter page:
http://www.fabfilter.com/products/twin- ... er-plug-in
Key features
>Three high-quality oscillators with PWM, hard sync, and phase sync
>Four state-of-the-art multimode filters with filter panning and 11 characteristics
>Extensive delay section with feedback and filter section
>Over 1600 presets
>Ring modulation
>Revolutionary new interface, using our innovative what-you-use-is-what-you-see concept
>Normal and wide interface layouts, with an option to show or hide the modulation section at the bottom
>Endless modulation options, with all the 16-step XLFOs, XY controllers, envelope generators, envelope followers and MIDI sources you will ever need
>Easy drag-and-drop modulation with 50-slot modulation matrix
>Modulation source signal visualization
>Side chain input
>Polyphonic portamento
>Highly improved MIDI Learn
>Unique per-component presets
>Smart Parameter Interpolation
>Extensive help file with interactive help hints
>Undo, redo and A/B switch features
I'm always the odd one when talking about synths as I usually am interested in playing the EWI through it as well as keyboards. The problem is that most synths don't recognize "aftertouch" which is crucial to achieve realistic instrument emulations.
Twin 2 seems to have everything I'll need to use Auria as a live mixer for several synths and drum kits being triggered live.
Does anyone have any experience with Twin 2 on a desktop?

Re: Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
I'd love to get my hands on it soon.Confuses me first that a lot of people wrote about it as"modular"but it's definitely not.Which leads to the one and only downside i see (for me at least): There s no Xmod or FilterFM.
At least the LFO goes up to 500 Hz although there is no key sync option for it (as far as i can see in the manual).
Besides this it seems to be a really really powerful synth and i'm very happy that this will be the first one in Auria.

Yeah, I'm still focusing my efforts on Thor for use with the EWI, but I love the Fabfilter layout. It's very clean looking. Can't wait to try.

Re: Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
The version of Twin 2 that will be built into Auria Pro will be essentially the same as the specs you posted, except it will only have a limited number of built-in presets. FabFilter will offer additional preset packs as in-app purchases. I don't have full details yet about how many will be included, but as soon as I have more info, I'll post it.

Oh man, that's too bad. The original has like 1600 patches.
Apparently it is so easy to edit that this is probably not too big a problem. Especially if they let us share patches.

Re: Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
It's a great little synth, 'modular' modulation options are just mind boggling.
I can't believe it's going to be included in Auria Pro.

Re: Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
Cool, can't wait for this. Gary numan patch from cars is possible then, because you need 3 lfo's to be able to modulate each oscillator separately. At least according to the book "Steal this sound." I have no real need for this patch but just want to make it on principle.
And presets are no big deal, I usually program my sounds anyway. I have tried the desktop demo a while ago, it's a pretty simple synth if I remember correctly. I'll have to get the demo again as auria pro approaches.

Re: Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
I've been checking out the Twin2 videos and some of the sounds are awesome! Rim,will the version that comes with Auria Pro have the XLFOs that can be used as Arpeggiators and Step sequencers and will they sync to Auria Pro's clock? That for me would make Twin2 worth the price of the upgrade. Oh and Happy Birthday Anthony!
Re: Fabfilter's Twin 2 synth -
I'll know more once I get the final build from FabFilter, but I assume it's similar to the desktop version. As soon as we have more details, I'll post it here.
