A.I.R.Studio

Post by Anthony Alves » Sat Jan 17, 2015 9:39 am

Thought some of you might like to see what my iPad only A.I.R.Studio looks like. I just finished the build and I made everything myself. It's a fun and creative man cave. Auria is what made an iPad only recording surface studio possible. Sculpted floating floor. 12 Lo/Mid sound traps. 24 Auralex ceiling tiles. Ceiling Bass Traps. Quadratic Skyline diffuser. Tuned and trimmed in knotty pine. Lets see your Auria studio.

Thanks. I too finally have a dedicated studio room. And the four track is a Tascam mastering deck that I master all my work on. And I also happen to have a lava lamp. Lol.

What so you master everything on an iPad say
Then take two tracks out an iPad or interface direct into a an anolog reel tape recorder
Do you do that to warm the final mix recording up that's a great idea

That's right Jus. I also often record straight from my SSL preamp direct to tape first then I copy it back into Auria for mixing. But I mostly use it to fatten and warm up my mix. I like the compression I get from tape. Thankfully my machine is as quiet as digital so no tape hiss here. I really love that analog part of the studio. Cheers.~~_/)~~~*

@djjuniorpops. My equiptment list is like most project studios. Nothing really special but here is the list and I will try to shoot a closeup of the desk.
My controller is a Nektar Panorama P4
My hardware synths are Waldorf Rocket, EMU ES4000 sampler, EMU Proteus, Roland D10
My preamp is a Solid State Logic XLogic Alfa Channel and I go direct SPDIF out of the SSL into the iPad via an M-Audio MTrack Plus SPDIF input.
My hardare processing is a Lexicon MX300 Multi FX Processor with Digital SPDIF in/out
A Warm Audio WA76 Compressor still to be installed this week as I just got it and I have to make room for it in the desk.
My monitors sit on RME IsoPads and they are KRK V4's
Roland V-Drums with a TD4 module
I have various studio mics but I often use my Studio Projects TB1
A mackie 4 ch sub mixer
A Prsonus FaderPort
IConnectMidi 2+
Headphones from Fostex, AKG and Sennheiser
A Tascam 44 Master Reel to Reel 15ips
I still have my original Focusrite 2i2 but rarely use it but I do use it for my YouTube tutorials.
Fender Guitar amp and various pedals
IPad Air and Auria as my main Daw with a powered Logix usb hub
I have several acoustics and electric guitars

Wait a minute... that isn't on a boat. This is ruining my preconception of you as a playboy millionaire leisurely floating round while recording.

Are you aware that your studio has the same name (or at least initials) as George Martin's studio? Looks awesome and I like the mix of some higher-end gear and some lower priced stuff.

That's right I no longer live on my sailboat. After 27 yrs living on my sailboat, I finally got my very own home in Feb 2014 and so the fairy tale life has come to an end. I must say that the new studio space is more comfortable and I don't keep wacking my mic stand with my guitar headstock everytime I turn to make an adjustment in Auria. Lol. All my Youtube videos done on the boat are now officially classics. My newest video will be out soon and filmed in the new A.I.R.Studio. Hope George Martin isn't offended. Really George I didn't know !

And a comfy chair.

Anthony, why is your studio space so nice and clean? There should be beer cans and Playboy posters all over the place.
Nice room treatment. Especially considering you did it all yourself. Not an easy task, but a great sense of achievement.

I live in Oregon USA. Can I come over and jam with you on the Roland kit?
I'll just fly in on my jet and well... now you know I'm lying.

Marty and you guys are the funiest. I laughed for an hour my gut hurts. You made my day. Thanks so much. As a true Aquarium born on Valentines Day and a retired Navy serviceman and a sailor I'm hoping I deserve to keep my old sig logo and it really identifies who I am. Free. Cheers ~~_/)~~~*

P.S. Marty you can jam with me any day. Cheers bro.
