ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
was expecting to have more ram available on the ipad air2, not less!
same project loaded into ipad air and ipad air 2:
available ram (from ram meter in Auria)
-air = 75 Mb
-air 2 = 50 Mb
that can't be right, where's it all gone?

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
Some things to check:
- Make sure you're looking at MEM not SPACE on the meter
- Close all apps, including Auria, then reboot the iPad
- Try a different project as a comparison

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
all apps closed.
tried a smaller project and they have around an extra 150-200Mb of RAM on the MEM meter.
the big projects however have less. about 30Mb less
I wonder if the projects use waaaay more RAM than either the ipad air or air 2 has available. They do use a lot of plugins.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
Not sure why it would be using more RAM. In my tests with the Approach demo project, I see an extra 600MB of free RAM on an Air 2 vs an Air. Try your tests with a 0-track project and see what you get on both.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
If I load an 8 track project with no audio and insert just 4 plugins into my iPad Air 2 or 1,
They are. ProC, Saturn, Timeless2 and Volcano 2 into channel 1
Engage record ready but don't record anything, the cpu starts to spike from 0-47% in an an uncontrollable way. This seems very strange as Auria should be able to handle this many plugins on one track live for recording. The iPad Air 1 is doing the same but not as severe. The memory is fine it's the cpu that is being taxed here.
8 tracks @ 44.1 kHz 24 bit
No audio
Only 4 plugins
Latest Auria version
IOS 8.1
IPad Air 2 and 1
Nothing Running in the background just Auria after a fresh reboot.
Any explanation why this is happening would be greatly appreciated . Cheers.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
That's very different (CPU usage vs. memory). In terms of CPU usage, buffer size has a big impact on how plugins work in Auria, and when you put a track into record mode, the buffer size automatically gets set to the value you have in the settings page (256 by default). Normally, Auria uses a buffer size of 4096 which makes CPU usage very low for most plugins. This is why it's not recommended to use any plugins while recording, because recording always uses that lower buffer size. It's also why using Audiobus mode, or any other apps in conjunction with Auria makes the CPU usage increase. When using Auria with another audio app, typically the buffer size gets set by the other app, and if it's low you'll see the CPU usage go up.
Some plugins deal better with low buffer sizes than others, so some experimentation is necessary to determine which ones are better to use in a live setting.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
Project with 0 tracks or plugins:
Air 1: 470 mb free
Air 2: 760 mb free
Is that normal?

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
Ipad3 : 535 MB free (iOS 7.1.2)
Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
man,i can't believe.I wanna buy the Air 2 TOMOROW and was in such a good mood. But then i wanted one last check here for more user experiences.Big mistake?
Not sure what to do now.I WANT that extra Ram so badly, especially for Auria.
ah,damn.I can't stop the train now, otherwise it will be a grey week
And a 3rd core plus 128GB is also nice to have.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
iPad Air 2 after restarting with all other apps closed, new project with zero tracks: 1129 MB free (actually started at 1111 MB and climbed up to 1129/30 after a few minutes).
Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
I may have to reset the whole thing and start a-fresh.
fingers crossed for 1000+ MB free RAM

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
That sounds about right, but iOS8 is a little hard to predict. If there's a specific project which takes more memory on an Air 2 vs an Air 1, I'd love to see it.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
After a reboot of the air 2, the free ram on a fresh project with nothing other than auria install was 450mb.
I thought this was very strange so I did a hard reset of the iPad and then restarted then project and it is now 1200mb.
Seems that this new iPad running iOS 8.1 got stuck with only being able to access 1gb of ram on its initiation.
I've just loaded the previous project that only had 50mb free and it now has 670mb free.
So there appears to be an initiation bug in iOS 8.1 requiring a hard reset before all the ram becomes available.

Re: ipad air 2- Where's all the ram gone!
I'm glad to hear that. Sounds like maybe an iOS bug.
