Guitarists! Meet SATURN!?!

Post by martygras » Mon Dec 09, 2013 4:07 pm

One of the plugs I bought on sale was Saturn. Not sure why really, I usually work in Rock but I'm open to new ways of adding character to tracks.

So the first thing I tried Saturn on was, of course, a guitar track.
I have a nice clean track with my Stagg telecaster style guitar just doing some sustained strumming, and tried some of the presets from the "amplifier" sub-category. There are several with "boutique" in the preset name and wow was I surprised. This is the tone I've been trying to get out of Amplitube and Jamup, but couldn't get it warm like the older amps I used to have. Well this was the smoothest tube-like overdrive I've ever been able to get without any tweaking.
Adding a very short convolution reverb (30-70ms) really makes it sound like its an amp in the room with you.

There is so much you can do with this plug-in, I doubt I'll ever get to try everything out as deeply as I'd like, but I thought some of you might be able to get a better classic overdrive with Saturn... and more.

Now I need to spend some time with "Timeless 2".

Yep great plug although I haven't really tried much guitar stuff through it (also like the rock thing ) but will do now
What I like about it is you can EQ an Eq sort of thing 8)

I'm having a blast running my guitar through Saturn too. It has some great sounding amp emulations for sure...along with very flexible parameter modifications.

Boy these FabFilter products are deep.

I do have one complaint though. I'm having some difficulty selecting some controls like the outer ring of some dual knobs. The rings are just too small to select easily.

I hear ya on this one. To get around this I set my Axiom keyboard ti control these small knobs via CC control. Works great.
Glad your enjoying your new plugins. Cheers.

SATURN and TImeless2 are awesome for guitarist.
I'd like to use saturn plug-in instead of jam up or amplitube.
Big problem is how to mange Saturn/Auria by stomp.
Can ik's blue board control them ?

I think Anthony has the answer above, mapping controls to a device, whether it be a keyboard and/or a foot pedal like the Behringer FC-blahblah.

In addition to getting better over-driven sounds, I think I'm getting better clean sounds now too. It might be having access to some great compression tools. Between Saturn and Timeless 2, you could probably get 90% of your tones from these guys. Especially for emulating older amp types and delays.

I don't think I would have given Saturn a try if it hadn't been for the sale. Not sure why I bought it, but am glad I did.

Likewise. I have only scratched it's surface. I also saw how too many bands quickly bring the iPad air to its knees. Doesn't matter if it sounds great, track freezing will be worth it.
