iPad Air. What interface for 8in/4-8out?
iPad Air. What interface for 8in/4-8out?
I've been studying the Auria interface list and the "Phonic Firefly 808 Universal" looks like exactly what I need, but it is discontinued, although available on Ebay.
Is the Phonic still a working interface with Auria?
I would like to hear from someone who is using, or has used one with Auria.
OR...
Does anyone have a better recommendation?
Keep in mind I don't have any ADAT cables or S/Pdif equipment, but midi is still needed.
Thanks in advance,
Marty

The Akai EIE also looks very straight forward, even though it only has 4 inputs.
I'd really like to find an interface that's very reliable and has 4-8 inputs.
Anyone?

Re: iPad Air. What interface for 8in/4-8out?
I'm really happy with my presonus vsl1818
It comes with 8 usable inputs(with preamps) straight into the ipad via powered hub there's a few YT CLIPS that an Auria user called foster had done on the presonus to give you an idea
Think 8 outs as standard which can by assigned I've tried it
But if you did ever want more inputs you can pick up a behringer ad8000 quite cheap sometimes on eBay
To give you 16 inputs it works well with the presonus
Only thing you have to watch with the 1818 is peaking because the slightest peak in the red on the preamp causes a big crackle in the recording
I'm not sure if was improved in a firmware update by presonus think it was but I have no decent pc ATM to update my firmware
Will say as long as the preamp don't peak and your levels are ok it's a crystal recording very clean preamps
But what do I know I'm not a pro at these things

Hello Marty I got the Akai EIE last March use it just about everyday has worked
perfectly with Auria 4-in 4out. For around $150US it's still about the best deal out
there as far as I can tell. Stuck at 16 bit but the sound quality is very good to my
aging ears. Doesn't need a powered hub- has midi in-out ports but I've never used
them. Sturdy little sucker I haul it all over the place. I'm on an ipad 2 16gb running
Auria 1.11 ios 6 which is where I'll probably stay until the battery dies or I break it
at which point I'll spring for the newest most powerful pad with at least 64gb memory.

Re: iPad Air. What interface for 8in/4-8out?
Thanks a bunch for the input guys.
This is really a tough decision to make. I want the interface to be rock solid because I'll be using it live and in the studio so it will probably get knocked about at times.
So far, all of the reviews for the Akai are very positive with it having the pre-A/D inserts and the built in usb hub (for EWI & keys) and I like having front panel controls and meters. Eventually I may have to get an 8-ch interface which the Phonic is similar to the Akai with additional channels. So I'm thinking the Akai is my best bet for now, and when I'm rich and famous (he he) I'll try to get some hands on time with a Presonus and/or a Phonic Firefly.
Who knows what will be available next year though.

Hmm, I just noticed that the EIE is only 16bit per the Akai product page.
That can't be true, can it?

Also it's only USB 1.1 so, although it'll work with USB 2 devices, it forces them to adopt 1.1 speed.

need some help as well, I've got an iPad air i would like a recommendation for a connection cable that will work with a song card help
Re: iPad Air. What interface for 8in/4-8out?
If I understand you correctly, for most of these audio interfaces you need a standard USB cable and an Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK). Since you have a newer iPad, there is a lightning version of the Camera Connection Kit or you can get a "30-pin to lightning" adapter if you already have the older 30 pin Camera Connection Kit..wettybeatz wrote:need some help as well, I've got an iPad air i would like a recommendation for a connection cable that will work with a song card help
I hope that helps.
