Griffin StudioConnect (30-pin) and iPad 4 w/adapter - WORKS!

Post by Photo_G » Thu Nov 28, 2013 4:22 pm

Happy Thanksgiving!! Is anyone out there using the Griffin StudioConnect (older) 30-pin version with a 30-pin to lightning adapter on their iPad 4? If so, can you provide any guidance on how it's working for you?

Thanks in advance,
G

Ok, I ordered a Studio Connect 30-pin version, and it works perfectly with the Apple brand 30-pin to Lightning adapter cable. I got the cable because it fits without removing the iPad 4 from its smart case, and so that I can use it with the 30-pin audio cable in my car too. I can finally lay down tracks in Auria and charge the iPad at the same time...YAY!

It's still on sale for $39.99 at Sweetwater (for now), although they are on backorder:

Confirmed here too.
What a great design, both aesthetically and functionally. I even started Auria and then noticed I hadn't plugged the Griffin's power supply in. I plugged the power supply in while everything was still open and after 2 seconds the blue ring around the volume dial blinked and all was working. Very cool indeed.

I agree! By the way, if someone is thinking about the Lightning version, here's one at a discount:

Also...not to cross the Auria guys, since it's in a class of its own, but if you happen to use Cubasis and find that it is dropping some MIDI notes, connect both MIDI in and out to the StudioConnect, and then enable "Send MIDI clock" in the Cubasis setup.

Ok, no more talk of SB!

Nice to know the adaptor works with iPad air. I got one of the older studio connect with 30 pin connect. I bought a cheapo adaptor but it does not fit the 30 pin on the griffin. So if I purchase the adaptor from Apple everything should work?

Hi everybody.

I just bought the Griffin Studio Connect 30-pin version.
I got an Apple brand 30-pin to lightning adapter. But I'm having issues with this audio interface.
There are some weird noises and glitches all the time thru the earphone connection when using with my Ipad Air on IOS 7.0.4

With an IPad 3 and or IPhone 4S the Griffing Studio Connect works well (no adapter is needed).
I even got a second adapter from Apple and the noises were still there.

Any idea what may be happening?
Nobody is having issues with the interface?

Regards,

Hi Papoarvelo,

I'm not having any issues at all on my iPad 4. Have you updated the firmware on the StudioConnect?

Cool, I didn't even know there was an app for that. Thanks Photo_G.

Good idea to have it even if I'm not experiencing problems currently.

You're welcome! I had to update the SC firmware to get bi-directional MIDI working on Cubasis. It's worth a shot!!

Update, to using the Griffin app to ensure you have the latest firmware in the Studioconnect.
Make sure you read the instructions: Making sure the Studioconnect is connected first, then open the app.

I tried to update using the iPad Air. The first time, it found the device and showed the available updates. It seemed to be working, but stopped when the progress bar was only a few segments in. I waited about 10 minutes, but it was still stuck so I tried to restart it. Then it couldn't even find the device so I thought I had "bricked" it. :x
Tried a few more times after closing out all apps and doing a reboot without success. :?
I then tried it from my iPhone 5 and all went swimmingly. :D

It's possible that this was due to using an Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter, (also tried the 30 pin to lightning cable) but still not sure what had gone wrong.

Wow. That's great feedback. Thanks! Mine worked fine with the adapter, but I have an iPad 4.
