Convolution "True Stereo" processing in Auria

Post by chuen » Sat Nov 02, 2013 3:59 pm

I use Samplicity T600 which includes True Stereo IR sets
free samples are availible here http://www.samplicity.com/download/
This library contains True Stereo, or "stereo-to-stereo" impulse response set. The True Stereo sets use filenames that end with "L" and "R".
True stereo IR sets consist of two stereo IR files, one with reverb information for sound from the
left (L) input channel and one for sound from the right (R) input channel. Both files need to be
fed with a centered mono signal from respectively the L and R channel.
Most current convolution
plugins have presets for True Stereo applications.
Say I use stereo microphone, so I do
1) create 2 mono tracks, route them to L and R channel of mic, set track's pannings to L and R respectively
2) create 2 Convolution plugs on AUX, load "L" and "R" IRs into
3) send track_L to AUX1, track_R to AUX2
4) with latency 1024 it is even possible to monitor sound processed by convolution

problem is, as outlined in quote above, that Convoltion should recieve centered mono singnal, but in this setup it recieves panned one
as workaround it's always possible use insert Convolution but I got limited by MIX feature, sometimes just impossible to make desired sound while using insert

There's no way I know of to load a true stereo IR into Auria's convolution reverb. This is a feature on my list for a future update, though. The issue right now is that AUX sends in Auria are stereo, and there's no way to send only the left or right channel to an AUX send.

Thanks Rim. Somehow this True Stereo coupled with stereo mic gives very lively feeling...
Also, I suppose if my project in 48khz and I use 48khz IR version -- there's no sample conversion happing... Can you comfirm that?

That's right, the convolution reverb doesn't do any sample rate conversion when "Low CPU mode" is turned off.

So that's the secret to saving cpu there. That's good to know then.
