MIDI Designer - interfacing
I'm trying to use the MIDI Designer App to create an interface feeding SYSEX MMC messages into Auria, so that I can control Auria's transport remotely.
The first hurdle is getting Auria to listen to MIDI Designer.
Anyone know how?
Pics attached are what I'm seeing in Auria and MIDI Designer.
(Sorry for the enormous pics)

Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Maybe it is the lite version of midi designer. Auria sees the pro version.

Yes, Looks right above with the added row. I got the version (1.5.7) from a few days ago while it was free.
I've clicked the first 3 on the "Midi Designer" row, MTC, MMC, Clock and also Notes as well.
On both send and receive rows just to try everything at once and it works nicely.
Little by little I will test each function individually to see what works with Auria and what doesn't.
I started by adding one button. Function = Start/Stop. Now all I need is several hours of uninterrupted experimentation.

Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Thanks both.
I'll upgrade and see if that sorts it.
If either of you have successfully sent transport control messages to Auria could you please post a pic of the button settings (or even share a layout
Would be great to have a head start.
Edit:
The main info I need is the hex sysex codes that control specifically Auria.
Could someone (Rim?) please post them up?
I'm having a hard time decoding the standard :/
Thanks

Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Auria only uses Mackie MCU and Mackie HUI protocol for remote control, which is a proprietary system invented by Mackie. There are some reverse engineered specs online, but we can't list them here.

Cool
Thanks Rim
If anyone cares to pm me, you know, just for a chat it'd be nice.
Hmm, I wonder where I could find that protocol info?
Rim
Are there any plans to extend midi transport control beyond using the Mackie protocols.
Seems a bit restrictive.
(Thanks for all your work. Don't mean to sound ungrateful)
Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Check out Rkmonkey's pic. That is correct and should work on the Auria side.deltayankee6 wrote:

In Midi designer go into "design mode". Add a button. Double tap to see its list of functions.
Under the settings tab(gears) - subtype = "Toggle".
Under the midi tab - message type = "Start/Stop".
I hope that gets you started. I had to review the tutorial 3 times.
So go at it with a vengeance.

Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Does this mean that Auria doesn't recognise all standard MMC commands? It appears to honor STOP (01), PLAY (02) and GOTO/LOCATE (44) but no joy with RECORD, FF and REWIND.Rim wrote:Auria only uses Mackie MCU and Mackie HUI protocol for remote control, which is a proprietary system invented by Mackie. You implied elsewhere that, if a MIDI controller can output sysex, it could probably be used for transport control of Auria. Did you mean only for start/stop?
Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
That's right, Auria only supports Stop, Play and Goto. I'll add the rest in a future version.

Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Thanks for the confirmation, Rim, and thanks for the intent to add the others (hope it's a relatively trivial job)
Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
Is there any chance of making the transport controls respond to Midi CC commands?
I've got a Novation Launchkey 25 that has built in transport controls that seem to only send CC 114 on up, and don't seem like they can be re-assigned. I'd love to be able to use them to control the Auria transport...has anybody had any success in this area?
Great program, by the way...
Thanks!

Re: MIDI Designer - interfacing
I'll be adding a more flexible midi control assignment in a future update.

@audiohub: I don't know about the Launchkey25 but you may be interested in this extract from a post in the Audiobus forum:
"...I've just plugged a Launchkey 49 into Auria and it works out of the box as a HUI - volume, pan, mute, solo, bank and transport controls all doing their thing. Launchkey Mini does volumes and banking only. I've not tested it with plugins, but note that the Launchkey does something slightly funky with it's pots to emulate the endless encoders of the real HUI, so you might get odd results with plugin parameters - if you can control them at all..."
I guess you'd need to configure Auria somehow, in settings. Perhaps Rim can advise on that bit.
Worth a try, I reckon...

Thanks Rim and Washboy!
After setting the system to Receive Remote from the Launchkey 25 InC connection under the MAckie HUI setting, I now have control of the transport from the Launchkey buttons. This forum is a great resource for those of us slowly finding our way.
Rim, thanks for your work on such a great program...every update brings more great stuff to the table.
