Alesis IODock plus other audio interfaces?

Post by nicadrick » Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:31 pm

Hi there,
I'm currently loving Auria with the iPad3 and an Alesis IODock. Looking for some more inputs, though. Is it possible to connect any of the compatible Auria Audio Interfaces (Presonus, Focusrite, etc.) to the USB port on the IODock to get the added inputs I am looking for?

Has anyone done this? The Alesis instructions are minimal and leave me guessing. I don't want to go out and purchase an interface only to find that this is not possible.

Please advise.
Thanks!

This isn't possible as far as I'm aware.

I checked with Alesis today and found out the same sad answer. It's going back! Does the Audiobox 44VSL work with Auria. I see its big brother the 1818 is listed as supported.

Please advise if you know.

Thanks again.

The 44VSL works, but requires a hub. FYI, we have a list of supported interfaces here:

I am aware if the list. What do you mean it requires a hub. Is it not a usb directly to the cck? Does it require the hub for power? Please advise.

In order to connect most USB audio interfaces to an iPad, Apple requires that you use a powered USB hub in between the device and the Camera Connection Kit adapter. This is because the iPad can't supply more than 50mA of power to the device. Unfortunately, even USB devices which have their own power supply need a hub when using it with an iPad, because most manufacturers set the power requirement field in the USB header to more than 50mA (even if they don't need any power). I've contacted many of the manufacturers to let them know about this, and a few have already fixed their USB header info to not require this. For example, Apogee, Focusrite, and RME don't require hubs, but Presonus still does.

Why not just attach a mixer to the inputs on the Alesis IO Dock?

That's what I do, but it's really cool using Audiobus I have 2 mic/line inputs and inputs from Jam-up or any number of synths simultaneously.

BTW, a member of the Loopy HD forum has "hacked" the usb portion of the Alesis IO Dock by adding an internal usb hub and has posted step by step instructions how to implement the hack.
