AAF file transfer problems

Post by mikelucas4 » Thu Apr 11, 2013 10:28 am

My friend and I both bought ipads and auria so that we can work on a project independently and then send it back and forth for collaboration. We have DAW experience but not much "computer" experience. We have tried all the steps with both Ipads to send the AAF back and forth to each other but have both failed.
PLEASE someone feel free to talk to me like I am stupid and walk me through the process.
I know it should be simple but its not when you lack all the background.
Your five minutes to help me would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks!!

Sure, glad to help. What DAW are you using on each end?

Thanks,
Rim

Sorry i wasnt real clear. I am using auria on my ipad and he is using auria on his ipad.
We just need to get the aaf files from mine to his and his to mine. We want to work on the same song while taking turns adding our musical "parts" then send it back to the other guy.
When we follow the directions, We get about 100 waves for a five track song.

Oh, gotcha. You don't need aaf for this. aaf is used for going between Auria and another DAW. For Auria to Auria, you simply need to send the Auria project to your friend. If you have a Mac or PC, you can use a program called iFunBox to easily copy the projects to and from the iPad onto your computer ( and then email it or dropbox it to your friend). Otherwise, you can use Dropbox to send the project back and forth directly from within Auria (although that's slower and less reliable).

sounds promising!!.... How exactly do i get the files in and out of ifunbox?
When ive used the dropbox feature built in auria i get a huge list of wavs for a song that may only have four or five tracks.
Im assuming its sending all of the "undos" or something?
something clean and easy would be nice. We are very frustrated.
Your help is VERY much appreciated!!

Here ya go:

1. Connect iPad via a sync cable to your PC/Mac
2. Run iFunBox... your iPad should show up
3. Double-click 'User Applications' in the left-hand pane of iFunBox
4. Scroll until you see the Auria app and double-click on it
5. Double-click the 'Documents' folder
6. Scroll to find your project file (e.g. "xyz.project")
7. Single-click on it and then click the 'Copy To Mac' toolbar button
8. Choose a directory on your PC/Mac for the zip file to be written to
9. Now use Dropbox etc to transfer the file to your buddy

Just reverse this process to inhale the file back to Auria:

1. Connect iPad via a sync cable to your PC/Mac
2. Run iFunBox... your iPad should show up
3. Double-click 'User Applications' in the left-hand pane of iFunBox
4. Scroll until you see the Auria app and double-click on it
5. Double-click the 'Documents' folder
6. Choose the directory on your PC/Mac where the zip file is (Dropbox etc)
7. Drag the project file to the Auria/Documents directory in iFunBox
8. Load project in Auria

If I were you, before you send off the project file each time, I would keep a dated backup copy. Just in case!

Cheers,

Thanks for the detailed and quick response....
Still having one more problem it looks like....
I have successfully moved the xyz.project file to my computer desktop (Thanks to ifunbox)
but i cant get them loaded back over onto the other ipad now.
I believe the problem now lies in the "zip" piece of your directions.
Do i have to somehow zip them to move the folder as a complete unit over to the other ipad ?
If not it seems like its asking me to only move each file one at a time rather than letting me select the xyz.project folder as a whole.

Sorry im such a rookie :/
thanks so much for your help!!!!!

Mike,

Sorry, I just meant that the project file is in effect a zip file of the entire project. You don't need to do anything with it other than simply copy the entire project file to/from your iPad/computer and then back again. You should be able to simply drag the file from the computer to the Auria/Documents directory in iFubBox (on the target iPad). It should copy all the files within the folder without any issues.

Try a reset on the iPad that is having trouble (hold down both buttons until the silver apple appears then release and wait). That cures most everything.
