Humm snap shot deleted my files, beware!

Post by mtingle » Thu Jan 31, 2013 12:02 pm

Not a major issue for me as I was making a test project but never the less using the new snapshot feature deleted my audio files.

Here's what I did:

-made a project with a drum track
-used drumagog to replace the hits
-saved a snap shot
-rendered the tracks and then erased the drumagog tracks
-loaded the original snapshot
-the original drum regions are now empty
-loaded the 2nd snap shot
-the rendered drumagog tracks are also empty

All snap shots now contain no audio.

Am I right in thinking the clean up audio feature is erasing the files as regions have been deleted in the various snap shots?

I hope the snap shot feature can cope with deleting regions else it could be very dangerous and much less useful.

Or perhaps I've totally misunderstood the snap shot function.

The clean up function should be manual. Dangerous as it is now.

Not true. I believe there is an automated clean up function that opperates each time a project is loaded and erases unused audio. Previously unworking prior to 1.06

So cleanup function automatically deletes unused regions, is that right?

And if so is this only after a snapshop save, or instead is it
any time you close any project?

thanks

(cus yes...sounds dangerous!)

This was never really an issue before the snapshot feature, but yes - Auria runs a cleanup process at each project load. If it finds regions which don't gave a file associated with them, it deletes them. Also, if it finds a file and no regions which use that file, it will delete that file. It makes good sense, and is not dangerous, except in cases like this, where the current project no longer uses a file, but a previous snapshot does.

To fix this, I'll have Auria scan all the snapshots as well when cleaning up.
