1818vsl working properly?

Post by hselburn » Mon Nov 26, 2012 5:55 pm

I created a 32 track 48khz project and I connected the 1818. 16 tracks show in the input matrix, 17and 18 do not. Is this expected behavior? Perhaps all 18 are only available at 44.1khz. I checked tracks 17 to 32 to make sure I wasn't missing something. nice to see the USB light up in Auria for the first time! As always, Advice is always appreciated!

That doesn't sound normal to me. You should see all 18 inputs available in the input matrix. Remember that on the 1818 (and others like the Focusrite 18i6), inputs 9&10 are the SPDIF inputs, so it skips these before going to the ADAT inputs. In other words:

1-8 Analog inputs
9&10 - SPDIF inputs
11-18 ADAT inputs

Hi!
Maybe this is the wrong place for my question but I try it.
I'm thinking of buying either a scarlett 18i6 or a presonus 1818vsl ( because of its individual gain controls).
I have an ipad4 64 GB,iOs6.01 and Auria latest version.Should both interfaces work and if yes: both have their
own power supply.do I need a powered usb hub to charge the ipad or what is for?
Thanks for any help.
And thanks to Rim and your staff !!!

Both interfaces work well on the iPad. The 1818 has gain controls, so it's easier to set levels, but the 1818 requires a powered USB hub to work on an iPad. This is not for charging. There's nothing that charges the iPad except the iODock. The hub is to get around a bug that exists in the Presonus USB hardware in the 1818. Many manufacturers have this issue, and we've been trying to let them know about it so they can fix it. It's a very easy fix, involving a simple firmware change. Focusrite has already done this, and that's why the 18i6 and 8i6 work without a hub now.

Hi Rim!
Thank you so much for your exceptional help! Now I understand.
By the way I want to let you know that Auria and the people behind it are GREAT!
I've been working as a studio musician and "engineer" since the late 197ies!!!So I've gone through some changes
since then...But with Auria you have opened a new door.
Thanks for your work AND YOUR PATIENCE,!

Sounds like I'll have to try it again.
I saw tracks 1 to 16 light up, 17 to 19 did not and then 20 on up did. May if I select 24 tracks at 48 instead of 32. I shouldn't have to arm the tracks to see them, should I? I didn't do that. I just plugged in the 1818 and then created a new project.

Not sure i have this right, since im not looking at my iPad rite now but...
if you look at the input matrix, i believe only the first 16 inputs are show on page 1, and we have to hit the tab to view the next set of inputs...could that be it?
