8+ channels audio interfaces

Post by djanton73 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 7:14 am

Hello

Has anyone using more than 8 channels simultaneously using Auria's compatible interfaces? I'm talking about Steinberg UR824, Focusrite 18i20/18i8 or Behringer U-phoria UMC1820. Does the last brand mentioned compatible with Auria?

Please kindly share your recommendation since I intend to record eight channels simultaneously.

Thanks before.

I've worked with the UMC 1820. It worked, all available channels showed up compatible in the input matrix. Now, I didn't go into extensive testing since it ultimately didn't work for my needs (I needed well more than 8 and thought I could chain them together via adat, but no) so I returned it..but from just basic testing, it worked fine. Hope that helps.

I am using a Tascam US 16 x 8, which gives me 16 channels. Its not on the list but works for me. All 16 imputs show up on the input matrix but I havent used more than 4 so far.

I use the Focusrite 18i20 all the time with Auria Pro. It works great. It is a very solid choice for an interface.

Yes, I thought so. Well, I've borrowed a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 from a friend. Since it's not compatible with iPad, I intend to buy a preamp with ADAT/SPDIF connectivity.

Do it has to be with a same brand or it will works with a different brand instead? Any other recommendation?

Thanks, Corey...

So, did u mean that the ADAT connectivity won't work if I want to expand the channel, let's say 12? Mind to explain, please?

Thank you

Sorry for the delay, the ADAT ports do work but see, I was a complete noob trying this (and still am), I was trying to combine 2 of them together via ADAT...assuming I could get double the channels. Total amateur mistake. I was sorely mistaken. It doesn't work. Does it work connecting other devices via ADAT? sure..but not daisy chaining two UMC 1820's together via ADAT to sort of "bend the system". Sorry I didn't clarify this on my first post.

To expand the Behringer UMC1820 to 16 ch you need to use Behringer's ADA 8200 as the second 8ch i/p device, connected by ADAT to the UMC 1820. (Avoid the earlier Ada8000 as apparently it had some reliability issues)
