Rough Side by Side for Vocals. Mics and/or Audio Interfaces.
*Studio Quality is not required. Any untreated room in your home or office will do.
*When comparing different audio interfaces, they must be iOS compatible; and the microphones recorded must be of the same model.
*When comparing different microphones, they must be recorded through the same interface.
*And last, but not least, a single source of sung melody or spoken voice must be recorded by the interfaces and/or microphones at the same time.
The idea is to gather the most samples of Auria compatible microphones and/or audio interfaces that we can; so we can have them here as reference.
Studio Quality is not required because, to be honest, if we all had Recording Studios, well... you get the idea.
Anyone interested in sending samples?

2x CM3. Scarlett 2i2 vs Guitarjack 2 and Rolls PB224.
Side by side comparison of my pair of Line Audio Design CM3 microphones.
Each microphone connected to a different audio interface.
Both microphones received roughly the same signal. My voice.
And I was about 83cm or 32.7in away from the capsules.
INFO: I don't have two iPads. So I used an iPad 4 and an iPhone 4s to make the comparison of the interfaces. I recorded into MultitrackDAW on both -24bit, 48kHz-. I "open in" BINS in Audioshare. Renamed the individual files to not get lost with large BIN names. The same process was made on both the iPad 4 and the iPhone 4s. After that, I transferred the iPhone files to the iPad with Instashare. "Open in" Audioshare and then imported all the files into Auria. Edited and tried to sync as much as possible; and joined. No EQ, Fades or effects. And finally, I exported the joined files back to Audioshare to rename them and to "open in" in Instashare again to transfer the final files to my Mac. No Mixdowns used.
Space: My small bedroom in the 2nd floor of an apartment complex -in the afternoon-.

Re: Rough Side by Side for Vocals. Mics and/or Audio Interfa
Thanks very much for these comparisons - they're very useful.
I am looking to buy an interface for vocals, and the Focusrites were on my list, but I also already own the Sonic Port Line 6 so it was interesting to hear that with a microphone amp going through it, another option to consider.

Re: Rough Side by Side for Vocals. Mics and/or Audio Interfa
@richardyot I'm glad you like the comparisons. I have the Line 6 Mobile In and the Sonic Port. Apparently they have the same A/D converters. I personally like both. The major difference is the monitoring options of the Sonic Port. It makes it much more of a complete audio interface.
In any case, I still have a few more combinations of hardware that I want to compare. I'll keep uploading for a while.
If anyone is interested in uploading comparisons, please do.

Re: Rough Side by Side for Vocals. Mics and/or Audio Interfa
I have a Røde M3. Haven't found a use for it really, it sounds quite muddy. I think your clips demonstrate that, but it does 'compress' some of the transients which make for a more level performance. The Line Audio CM3 is probably too close for that kind of vocal work, and it's also picking up the room a lot more - which, as you've said, isn't the best environment.
IMO, the X1R is the best of the bunch at that distance for that room for that vocal. Which is why engineers always end up with lots of mics!

I really like the X1R. I have tried it out with some light melodies. And close mic. At least in my headphone monitors, it sounds really nice. And it pampers my voice.
I have been doing all these comparisons for a few months now because I want to produce a small 5 song demo. And I am trying to decide with which equipment to record it.
I haven't had the time to concentrate, sit down and record it. It might take me a few days. But at least the arrangements are ready.
So I have used my spare time to do my own experiments into how I can achieve a better sound without spending to much money.
And because I don't live in the place where I want to record it, I have been looking also into mobility or portability.
So I thought that the comparisons I have done might help someone else
