iPad mini cannot power my interface.

I just spent $300 on Focusrite's Scarlett Studio with a Focusrite 2i2 interface and I get an error message that says it uses too much power. Be warned.

Hi some interfaces need a powered USB hub to work with iPads

Unfortunately, most USB interfaces don't work on an iPad without a powered hub. FYI, we've created a comprehensive list of interfaces, which lists whether they requires a hub or not here:

I just purchased the 18i6. The ipad 2 does require a powered hub for this interface. Even still, I have to monkey with plugging and unplugging the USB cables before it works consistently. Frustrating issues!
