focusrite scarlet 2i2 problems

Post by spuds0828 » Fri Nov 08, 2013 12:21 pm

Hello everyone im currently using the focusrite scarlet 2i2 (which is on the inteface list) and the camera connection kit powered by a dynex usb3 hub that uses a usb 2 cable which after doing the research it supplies the exact power as the dyanex 7 mentioned in previous comments...heres my problem when i connect everything and fire up auria everything is good but as i start to work on a project everyonce in a while i get the trill of death when im using auria as a stand alone and also when i try to use audiobus! after a while it gets to the point where its hard to work on anything cause i have to keep reseting everything and after a few mins. it does it all over again...this is very frustrating...has anyone had this problem..or has any hints that would help????...thank you

This is definitely not normal. Can you describe in more detail what happens, and what you're doing right before it happens?

Sure rim,

Im in auria just recording or editing or actually just listening...and for some reason after a few mins..the trill of death begins and theres no signal from the interface to auria so i have to unplug the interface and plug it in again then it resets itself then its good for another few mins...plus i have everything ..my ipad3 in airplane mode and no apps running and it still does it...so not sure what it is

Can you describe a "trill of death". Is it like feedback? Also, does this only happen when the interface is plugged in to the iPad?

trill of death = like if the vocals are ...you and meeeeeeee....it will go you and and and and and and..which forces you to hit stop then it will fade out..then you hit play and then plkayback is choppy then forces you to hit stop again..then i unplug it and plug back in then it works for a bit then the same thing happens again...but yes only does it when the interface is plugged in..when its not the ipad works fine and i know the interface is good cause i use it with my brothers computer and hes running protools...and after research i know the hub works cause the amps is the same as the other byanex hub thats mention in the interface forum

It sounds very much like an incompatible hub to me. The focusrite interfaces actually don't need a hub. Can you try this without the hub at all, and see if the problem goes away?

Actually, I think I may have been wrong on that. If the 2i2 doesn't have it's own power supply, it still needs a hub. We'll have to verify this, but I suspect it doesn't have it's own power supply.

I suggest trying a different hub. It's impossible to say by just looking at the specs whether a hub will work with an iPad or not. Some hubs work well with iPad and some don't. Here's a thread where users are talking about the hubs that have worked fine for them:
