Audio Interfaces -Selecting 24 Bit recording option in Auria

Post by rlove » Wed Dec 19, 2012 10:32 am

Hello,

I am wondering if there is a way to ensure that recording is set at 24 bit within Auria, assuming that the audio interface has that capability. I don't see a way to adjust this, unless I am missing something.

I am using the Ipad 3 64GB (30 pin) and also the Ipad Mini 16GB (lightning connector). I have tested a number of recording interfaces that are capable of either 16 only and also 16/24 bit:

Akai EIE - 16 bit, 44.1 khz only (works with CCK on 30 pin or Lightning with NO HUB NEEDED)
Tascam IU2 - 16 Bit, 44.1 khz only (30 pin dock)
Lexicon Omega - 16/24 Bit, 44.1/48 khz (works with CCK on 30 pin or Lightning with NO HUB NEEDED)
Presonus Audiobox 44VSL - 16/24 Bit, 44.1/48/96 khz (with CCK only IT WILL NOT WORK, BUT if you use a CCK hub it works fine)

I know that the sample rate is adjustable when a new project is selected, but I do not see anywhere in the software that the bitrate can be changed.
Strangely, even when I use a "16 bit only" interface such as the Tascam IU2 or Akai EIE (or even the built-in Ipad mic), I still have the option to record at higher than 44.1.
Obviously it won't record at above 44.1 khz using either of these interfaces, but it acts as if it is.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks

Auria always records using the highest bit rate that an interface is capable of providing. For most interfaces, this is 24 bits, but a few only support 16 bits. In these cases, Auria still records at 24 bits, but the extra 8 bits are unused.

I was hoping that was the case. Thank you for the quick reply, and keep up the great work !!
