Will,

The Presonus (and most USB interfaces) need a powered USB hub before you can use them with an iPad.

Maybe that's the issue. I am using this:-

Any ideas if I need another one?

That hub looks fine. Are you sure the hub is plugged in to power? Also, make sure you have the cables connected the correct way: most hubs have several input ports and one output port. The Audio interface needs to be plugged into one of the input ports, then the output port of the hub should go to the camera connection adapter, then to the iPad.

That's exactly what I have. The light on the front of my 1818 is glowing red which means that it is only powered but not synced to my iPad.

Rim, I wish you lived close to me so you could pop around.

Actually, that's not what I meant. Both the 1818 and the hub need to be powered.

Yeah, man. Both are plugged into wall sockets which work.

Hmmm. And you're sure that the plugs are connected correctly (1818 to one of the 4 hub inputs, then the hub output to a camera connection adapter, then the camera connection adapter to your iPad)?

Is the lightning to Camera adapter a genuine Apple one, or aftermarket?

Also, this is a lightning to camera adapter, not just a lightning to USB adapter, right?

The hub output slot that I'm sending to the Lighting adapter is not usb shaped. It looks like below:-

The other 4 slots on the hub are all standard USB shaped.

The lighting connector is a genuine apple one and is called 'Lighting to USB Camera Adapter'

Does this change anything?

OK, then everything looks right. It must be either a defective hub, or one that's not compatible with iPad. Do you have a different one you can try? Somehow the hub is not providing power to the USB cable.

The hub works when it's connected to my Acer notebook and the back of the packaging for the hub shows that it works with Mac 10.x

If I look to buy a new hub, what detail should I be look for to ensure it works with the iPad?

Your hub might work just fine connected to your notebook, but very few devices actually need the power from the hub, so you might not notice any problems if your hub isn't providing power.

I don't keep a list of hubs that work, but perhaps others can chime in with the make/model of hubs they are using. I am using a very old hub that's no longer made.
