New iPad Pro X?

Post by jrech » Mon Oct 22, 2018 9:13 am

I was thinking about getting a new iPad. What if it doesn’t have a headphone jack on it. That seems to be the route they are taking. What will we do to listen/edit/record in auria?

Pretty sure it will ship with a dongle as the newer iPhones do (Lightning-to-Phonejack), but will be USB-C-to-Phonejack. Other than that, you would have to use an outboard audio/MIDI interface device.

We are working on the bluetooth support with Auria and hope to have something available in the next update.

Corey,

Won't Bluetooth latency make it unusable for realtime monitoring and recording?

Well, yeah. There's nothing anyone can do about Bluetooth latency. We will suggest not record monitoring via bluetooth but a lot of Users just want to be able to playback via wireless speakers and headphones, so now that will be enabled.
The best route is to still use a USB hardware interface but we are not going to get in the way of Apple's 'courageous' movements in technology. :D

And of course you'll still be able to use the Apple headphone dongle like you can now, so this really shouldn't impact anyone.

How big would be the best, 12.9 or the 10.5. What size should it be? 512mb? I want to keep costs down but not effect the use of auria pro. Thanks for your help.

12.9" is better in my opinion. Not really necessary, but simply more comfortable. Especially if you use effects and plugins. Concerning size, I work with a 32GB iPad (12.9"), sometimes also with older 16GB iPads, with only few projects loaded. Projects I don't currently work on I transfer to a portable harddisk or to a computer, and put them back on the iPad when needed. It's additional administrative work but it can be done during a pause, so no big disadvantage.

I have the 12.9 and 256gb now and it is cool. I am looking to get the new one with probably 256gb but the cost of the 12.9 or 10.5 is what I am having a tough go with. I don’t use that many plugins when I mix. It is pretty straight forward. With the new screen the 10.5 is supposedly moving to 11. I am not sure which one is the right answer. Thank you for the posts.

Will camera connection kit 3 be incompatible with the new iPad x?

That is a good question. The apple site says usb-c is what is charging it. Do we have to get a new adapter or new cables to connect our mixers or interfaces to the new iPad?

The 1TB model reportedly has 6gb of RAM vs. 4gb in the other models. Will there be any noticeable performance benefit with the extra RAM? In other words, is it worth paying the exorbitant premium for the 1TB (6gb RAM) model?

Good call jsol. I like the idea of usb-c coneccter though. I can plug in a hard drive to store the songs I am not using. I don’t like the headphone jack being missing though. I am torn between the 12.9 I have or getting a new one. I just got the new iPhone XR and the new processing chip in it has my interest raised. I have a line 6 helix I use for my input into the iPad. I have to see if that will work with auria and the iPads. I like all of the ideas people have. Thank you for the input.

I just had a brain rush. What is going to happen with the keyboards we have used to trigger the apps? Do you think there will be a dongle to hook up a cable to do it?
