IRig pro duo upgrade

Post by jrech » Fri Mar 09, 2018 1:30 pm

I just ordered an IRig pro duo. It was a great price and it is coming with a microphone. The IRig mic may not be good but it is a nice add on. I saw on the auria list, it works with auria. I have the IRig pro with no problems. Is there anything with the duo that I should watch out for? Does anyone use the power adapter you need to buy or just the battery function.

It’s a very good sounding interface; although it is plastic and doesn’t seem very durable. I use it with IK’s PowerBridge, which charges the iPad and doesn’t add any hum. Expensive, but it was well worth it to me.

I also have a Focusrite 2i2 and think the iRig sounds noticeably better with my microphones and guitars.

I use it in my little basement studio, so I don’t need it to be mobile.

The 2 AA battery feature didn’t work for my workflow. Using a condenser mic drained the batteries too quickly.

Does the powerbridge charge the iPad and provide power for the condenser mic? It sounds like the powerbridge is worth it if it does both. I need it if it will give power to a condenser mic.

I’m glad you asked, because the Powerbridge only charges the iPad. It allows you to charge while having the interface plugged in. Unfortunately, it doesn’t charge the interface; therefore, it doesn’t power a condenser mic.

I have a Truetone 1 Spot 9 volt power supply for guitar pedals, which I use to power the iRig Duo.

Sweetwater has them for about $20. No noise.

Admittedly, it’s a little cumbersome to set up, but I don’t break it down, and it serves all my needs for now. I’ve got the iPad and the iRig fixed to a mic stand, so I don’t have to move too much to plug in, set levels, and track. One it’s set up, it’s very streamlined. Of course if you want portability, it’s not so great for that.

I suppose I’m not using it the way IK intended, but it suits my needs very well.

I hope this helps. Good luck with it.

That is perfect. I have an extra 1 spot so I can use that. I will look at the powerbridge to charge the iPad. So far I have been good with the charge. I may get one just to be safe. Thank you for all of your help.
