Depends on what Drummachineapp we talking about...
AUv3 app like Ruismaker is nice, but you can use Audiobus or IAA ...
The possibilities are endless...

Re: Very newb question about instrument routing
yes that is correct the only way to inset an instrument into AuriaPro is either by IAA which will load into the plugin slots of any channel subgroup or master or aux fx slots. The second is AU which has a limited amount of drum apps at this time but the numbers are growing and lastly is as a midi instrument if it shows up in the midi instrument drop down menu. Currently there are tons of midi apps that do not show up on this list so using the Plugin slots to load IAA drum machines is the best way. You can load virtually all drum apps on the app store into AuriaPro and Auria in this manner.
You can also use audiobus but that is really not needed anymore as inserting fx into AuriaPro are simply and easier than loading another app just to route audio. Good luck and cheers

Re: Very newb question about instrument routing
Anthony, maybe you would be kind enough to answer another question.....
I have a couple samples that i want to use an arpegator app to trigger whats the easiest way to do that?
Ordinarily, i would map each sample to a key on a sampler, and use the aprpegator to trigger each key. But i cant seem to find an easy way to do that. Lyra, for example, wont let me just map a couple samples to its keys
Thanks in advance.....
