Importing EXS Instrument(s) Directory Structure

Post by rp88.2 » Mon Oct 03, 2016 10:34 am

Good morning:

Last night I had some real issues importing .SF2 instrument into Auria Pro - got it working.

I was about to try a couple commercial EXS instruments that I bought but when I looked at the directory structure, I wasn't sure if it would work (and it was getting way too late :D)

Here's the default directory structure:

CoolSynth Bank 1 > *.exs files
Samples > Lots of *.wav/*.aiff files

I'm assuming that I can do this:

Sampler Instruments > CoolSynth > CoolSynth Bank 1 > *.exs files
Sampler Instruments > CoolSynth > Samples > Lots of *.wav/*.aiff files

Will this work or do I need to change up the structure? Thanks!

I looked at some other posts here and on audiobus.us and wasn't able to find the answer.

Best regards,

Rich

Rich,
The file structure for EXS files should actually look something more like this:

Sampler Instruments> Synth (folder)> Cool Synth (folder)> Cool Synth.exs
Sampler Instruments> Synth (folder)> Cool Synth (folder)> Cool Synth .wav files (in a folder)

It is of course optional if you want to put your new samples in a parent folder (like 'Synths')

Make sure that the name of the actual EXS file matches that of the folder which contains its .Wav audio files.

Hi Corey:

Thanks for the reply. Turns out my structure above was incorrect...

I got it working with the default structure from the producer (DigitalSoundFactory) - I just decided let's import this 600MB mess :D

Here's how the instruments are structured :

Sampler Instruments > Synth1
Sampler Instruments > Synth1 > Bank 1
Sampler Instruments > Synth1 > Bank 1 > Patch 1.exs
Sampler Instruments > Synth1 > Bank 1 > Patch 2.exs
...
Sampler Instruments > Synth1 > Bank 2 > Patch 1.exs
...
Sampler Instruments > Synth2 > Bank 1 > Patch 1.exs
...

SoundFont Samples > Synth 1 Bank 1 > lots of .wav
SoundFont Samples > Synth 1 Bank 2 > lots of .wav
SoundFont Samples > Synth 2 Bank 1 > lots of .wav
...

Sorry for the confusion above.

Total it's about 6 synths with 4-6 banks each; with 75-100 patches per bank.
