recording time on iPad

Post by geister » Tue Jul 05, 2016 2:59 pm

I am shopping for an iPad interface, and each of the few I am considering has its merits and problems. One of the interfaces I am considering is the SPL Crimson. Its possible downside is that I am not sure how long the battery in my iPad 3 will retain its charge when recording 4 tracks of audio simultaneously. I am getting ready for a session. If my iPad's charge lasted for only an hour, this could be disastrous considering how long it takes to recharge. I am guessing that the session will take 3 hours of iPad time. If anyone knows if that is a reasonable or unreasonable expectation, please let me know.

Another contender is the iconnectaudio 4+. It charges the iPad as you use it. But, from reviews, I don't have a sense of the quality of its preamps or convertors, any information about those issues would be welcome.

I know that the Apogee Quartet is the main contender for what I want to do, but the price is prohibitive.

Thanks.

Keep in mind that Apple finally released a USB to Lightning CCK so that you can charge your iPad while using any USB interface now. http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0W2 ... ra-adapter

Thanks Corey. I will look into that. I have an iPad 3 with a 30 pin connector. So the question will be whether I can first adapt the 30 pin to receive the lightning cable and then use the new camera connection kit. My iPad has a retina display, which, according to the Apple site, qualifies it. We shall see.

Update- I found that there are adapters that have a lightning female on one side and a male 30 pin on the other. I have read that they will work to pass power into the iPad. The Apple Store specialist did not know if the new lightning based camera connection kit would work with a USB audio interface. I'll keep hunting, and if anyone knows whether the following works, I'd love to hear from you:

USB 2 audio interface -> lightning camera connection kit -> lightning female to 30 pin male adapter -> iPad 3 with retina display.

Thanks.
