A way of Gain staging?

Post by BennieTonini » Thu Feb 04, 2016 4:20 pm

Hi there peeps,

I've been recording some iPad Synths and managed to even record audio with my "Balance" (Reason Propellerhead) Audio Card. Via a powered USB hub with a studio mic.

I was wondering why my signal get so hot from the iPads Synths. There was no gain / volume parameter so I figured out that you must do all the settings on the Synths and then it got much better.

A funny thing I discovered was recording the Audio from the master in to a track and i could play with the gain this way, by using the masterfader.

It's a bit of a hustle to get the record gain parameter at view and it looks like this is only for Recording Audio by sound cards? So is there something i missed about gain? I know there's a handle above the clip you can drag it down but not before you record.

Anyone else has a view on how to handle this?

Or is there something i forgot to read in the manual?

Hold the arm record. Track and you'll get a few options. Among these there is a input volume knob

Yes I know! But this thing isn't working for iPad Synths! Is it only for Audio captured by internal mic. and external soundcards?
