Strange problem!

Hey guys, I've got a strange problem. I started a new project, with the bit rate at 96kb. I import several mp3 files, which auria then converts to .wav. When they are ready to playback, I click play, but the song is super fast, like chipmunks! Then I tried the same thing again at a bit rate of 48k. The song still plays back fast, but slower than the first time. Then I try the same thing again with the bit rate at 44k, and everything plays back fine. Can someone please tell me what's going on here?
