Reverse Reverb Effect?

Post by timmyg » Tue Mar 03, 2015 8:26 am

Anyone know the steps to make this work in Auria?
Seems simple enough but I can't seem to work it out.

I mixdown a solo'd vocal track with reverb (from an aux send), reverse the mixdown but when I reverse again it goes back to normal. What am I doing wrong?

I've sliced a track at 2 points and moved that to a scratch track. Reversed it, then added reverb, then reverse again, then print the reverb to that segment, and place on an adjacent track to the original.

Since DAWs are non destructive, that means that if you reverse part of a (uncut) track, then you reverse the whole wav file that is the track. You have to create a new entity out of the portion of the track you want to reverse so it is isolated form the original. Then do the reverse trick.

I probably left out some small steps, but it's mostly there.

[Update]
I just read through the manual on destructive editing, and I believe I made a copy of the entire track then trimmed it down to the part I wanted to reverse.

1.Record your track
2.select reverse from the process menu
3.add reverb from FX to the track
4. Mix down track to a wav file
5. Load wav file to a new track
6. Select reverse again
7. Voila!
Let me know if it works for you

That will work, but only for the entire track.

Thanks guys. Just to make sure I've got this...

1) Copy PART of track I want the effect on to a new track
2) Process > Reverse
3) Add Reverb on new track insert
3) Bounce/Mixdown Track
4) Import bounced wav
5) Reverse imported wav
6) Repeat above steps to other parts of original vocal track where desired

Is this correct?
Not sure what you meant by 'print the reverb' @martygras?

yes. That should do it. I wish I had said it better now, but that's a clearer-er description.

Oh, there mat be a little re-alingment necessary.

I bet everyone here would love to hear a snippet if it works as you wanted it to.

This worked even better than i'd hoped. Thanks for the advice.

Just an idea for anyone else trying to achieve a more subtle version of this effect (like me). I ended up doing this:

Once you've followed the steps in the previous post try just trimming the new reversed reverb vocal to just before the original dry vocal begins. This way you don't get the effect over the entire vocal which I personally find a bit OTT.

I then did the same at the start of other vocal phrases throughout the song. Simple but effective.

Good example of this here though i did it on a sung vocal:

Glad it worked. I'll have to try to see how many different ways there are to do this.
