Would be very useful for many reasons but forming longer mastering fx chains would one.

Yes, this would be nice, but I don't see a reasonable way to do it in code. I'll have to think about this some more and see if I come up with a clever way to do it.

I have no idea about anything in code, but two different daws have interesting ways. In reaper, a bus is a bus, anything can route anywhere. In mixbus, there's 8 aux buses and on each channel there are 8 sends. Full up would be like you have now, but you could send to all 8 at once, less than full up would be more like an aux. code wise, no idea, although it is built on ardour, which is open source. That being said, I've learned to mix on auria as is, anything else would just be icing on the cake.
