Controller recommendation please

Post by garnold » Fri Apr 04, 2014 8:40 pm

I'm looking for a keyboard / controller for Auria. A keyboard, pads and sliders are a must. I'd like to be able to control channel levels and anything else would be a plus.

I have an older M-Audio Axiom 61 which did a good job but love my newer Novation Impule61. It does what is says on the tin and does it well. I also got my son an Impulse 49 which is just as cool , just smaller obviously.

I have an axiom 61 also but you won't be able to use it as a controller for Auria itself as far as transport or fader control as Auria has no midi mapping or anything like that. you'll be able to use it to play instruments going into Auria via midi.
I don't know of any midi keyboards that will control Auria until midi is added in the next update. I could be wrong because I only use my Axiom 61 but it definitely does not.

Apologies to the OP. I forgot we were talking Auria specific. My response was in regards general PC/desktop DAW controllers. To the best of my knowledge Auria will need full midi implementation to support these controllers

I thought auria supported transport controls? In settings there is a section on this under midi settings. Auria supports the mackie standard and something else.

As far as I know it supports Mackie control protocol. You're aren't going to find a keyboard/slider combo that supports Mackie control. As it is there are only a few mix control products out there as is. Behringer (don't be frightened they are getting much better these days) just came out with the X-Touch control surfaces, motorized touch sensitive faders etc that should work with Auria

http://www.behringer.com/EN/products/X- ... MPACT.aspx

If you want to go super cheap you could go with the original behringer BCF-2000
http://www.behringer.com/EN/products/BCF2000.aspx

Or the full blown one with channel displays etc...
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/X-TOUCH.aspx

You can also go with the Mackie control universal pro (if you can't stand behringer)
http://www.mackie.com/products/mcupro/index.html

Then just get a keyboard as well and you'd be all set.

I'm pretty sure you can use these with standard MIDI cables too so you could add something like a and iConnect MIDI interface which (with optional power adapter) will charge the iPAD

http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI2plus

After that, add on whatever keyboard (that has standard MIDI output) you want and you've got a full blown studio with the iPAD at the center.

This is if you want to go all out with it :D

You could also replace the iconnect MIDI with a higher end audio interface that charges the iPad and has multiple MIDI inputs for hooking up the control surface and keyboard as well.

You could do something simple like this
http://global.focusrite.com/ipad-audio- ... k#overview

which would give you a dock, audio interface, and USB port input which you could plug a hub into and then any "class compliant" keyboards or controllers (Mackie Control capable control surfaces).

or go all out and get one of these
http://store.apple.com/us/product/HC415 ... ne-and-mac

This is saying you want to go all out.

The cool thing is that if you decide that down the road that the iPad isn't the way to go, all this gear can be used with a classic DAW and computer (minus the Focusrite dock), so you don't have to feel like you're only investing in a iPad specific setup.

Hope this helps
