Auria Upgrade Cycle

Excuse the embarrassingly noobish question but how do upgrades work? If I buy Auria today do I get upgrades automatically whenever they become available or are there limits on the upgrade cycle?

I'm new to the Ipad / app world and my head is still in the old PC / Software world where you might get bug fixes and service packs but significant software developments would be paid for.

So how does it work over here?

Generally in iOS you buy the app once and all future upgrades are free. While this is great it does mean less revenue for devs so in many cases new features are added via in-app purchases, and in some rare cases apps are abandoned and a whole new app is released as the next version.
