iPad 4: Camera Connection Kit and USB powered hub?

Post by rayetheridge » Fri Aug 30, 2013 1:53 pm

I recently upgraded to a iPad 4. I hope the trade off over the iPad 3 will be worth it.

My main concern after my iPad 4 purchase is the fact that it has the lightning cable and not the older 30 pin. I have the camera connection kit but its the older 30 pin. Will I have to purchase a 30 pin to lightning converter linked with the camera connection kit I already have or is there a lighting camera connection kit for the new iPad? I really think it would be annoying to have the converter linked with my current connection kit because it would be prone to break the lightning pin considering the whole assembly would be elongated.

I've used the iPad 3 with MultiTrack DAW using the the Camera Connection kit and a powered USB hub in which it work flawlessly. I do not want to purchase Auria unless I have all the hardware I need to work with my iPad 4.

Yes, you'll need a new adaptor, but not one to daisy chain onto your 30-pin camera adaptor. Apple makes a Lightning to USB Camera Adaptor ($29US), with which you'll replace the 30-pin adaptor. In essence, you'll just be swapping out the older Camera Kit for the new Lightning adaptor. They are readily available at Best Buy here in the US, not that I endorse Best Buy, or at an Apple store, if you live in a town or near a town with an Apple store.

I use it with an iPad 4 as you describe, with a powered USB hub. I've got a USB keyboard, a FaderPort, and an Apogee Jam all running with no issues at all.

Although it's an additional $29, used with your iPad you'll be amazed at how much you can do with Auria!

Thanks

I'm aware that they make a lightning connection kit but I was not sure it worked with my Focusrite 2i2. Has there been any evidence that the iPad 4 surpasses the iPad 3 in Auria enough to serve justice on the extra I spent getting the iPad 4?

If you want to play games like what you mentioned, iPad with Retina Display is the way to go (4th generation). It is much more stable and has very stable FPS compared to the iPad Mini (in which I think the performance is okay, but not close to as fast as the 4th generation iPad).
