Hi,
Just a video before the 1.8 that permit the pumping effect with a side chaining like, using psp compressor.
It's not my work, and be patient the video shows quickly the settings of the psp subgroup.
You route two tracks (audiobus imput is just an example, sample track is ok too) in the same subgroup

Setting up a side-chain would sound different to what is happening in that video, since in that example both the kick drum and the synth are getting compressed by the BussPressor on the subgroup, i.e. the kick is getting compressed, too, so it's pumping right along with the synth.

To do something similar with Auria's side-chain routing, insert a Fabfilter Pro-C (which is being updated in 1.08 to add side-chain support) on the synth bass track, and route the plug-in's side-chain input from the kick drum track, then just setup Pro-C similarly to what's in the video (basically low threshold, high ratio, quick attack, slow release). The synth will pump whenever the kick drum is played like in the video, but the kick drum will NOT be compressed at all, since the compressor is only on the synth track. Similar sound, but different, definitely wouldn't say one way was better than the other.

The PSP BussPressor S.C.HPF knob is a hi-pass filter that is applied to the incoming signal (called a control signal in the manual), so that low frequencies can be prevented from triggering the compressor. They call it a side-chain because it doesn't effect the actual sound being processed by the BussPressor, and down the road I believe PSP is planning on updating the channel strips to support Auria's new side-chain routing.

In the case of the video setting the S.C HPF to 2k means that the compressor is only triggered by the short high frequency attack of the kick/synth, and not the longer, slower, lower frequencies.

hey matt thanks for the explanation, but is there any benefit from psp side chain (thats coming) and the pro c side chaining (thats available now) other than the graphical reference?

also what are the differenced between using side chaining in pro l pro g and pro c?

Only Pro-G has the sidechain option in Auria 1.07. FabFilter added full sidechain support for Pro-C, Volcano2 and Timeless2 in 1.08 (which is in Apple's hands at the moment).

I can sidechain with Saturn so it must be sidechain ready because I'm doing this now! and it works like a charm too.

The only plugin that has side chain working in 1.07 is Pro-G. All the others have been updated to support this (including Pro-C) in 1.08 (which is in Apple's hands at the moment).
