Click track

Post by tudorfingers » Wed Feb 13, 2013 5:24 am

Is there any way to route the metronome to a separate output to send to my drummer as a click track in a live setting. I'm using a Focusrite 18i6.

Not directly, but you can record the metronome onto a track (using mixdown), then assign that track to a subgroup and send that subgroup to a specific output.

Thanks.
Can you elaborate on how to use mixdown to record the metronome?

1. Add a track, if necessary, to use as your click track
2. In Menu>Input Matrix, select L (mono track) or L+R (stereo track) as the input for your click track and close the matrix
3. Solo your click track and make sure it's the only solo'd track (or, alternatively, mute all other tracks)
4. Record Enable your click track
5. Rewind to the beginning (or position the cursor at an appropriate point in the Edit Window)
6. Tap Record and then Play in the transport
7. Tap Stop when you've recorded enough clicks!
8. Record Disable your click track and disengage the solo.

Voila! One click track, which you can assign to a subgroup, etc., as previously mentioned.

Hope it works for you.
