Waveform after compression

Post by pj2013 » Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:08 am

Could someone guide me (am using the Auria app on my ipad).

The shape of the wave form of a recording doesn't change after I apply such effects as a compressor or limiter to it. Should it?

Also, this might be a silly question but when should I add gain, after a recording has been made? Is it just to increase the post recording volume closer to 0.0db?

Thanks

You're just seeing the original waveform. All effects are applied in real-time, and you'll only see these effects when you make a mixdown and import it.

Some edit function such as normalization or cutting will alter the original waveform. The waveform magnification slider makes the waveforms louder or quieter looking but doesn't alter the original waveform. If you bounce a track through effects you will see the changes in the new waveform.
