Just a little bug regarding the cpu-meter

Post by Geronimo » Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:32 am

I've played around with the incredible Saturn plug in, and at one point i reached 101% cpu usage. The cpu-meter stopped working then and froze. Auria worked fine again after deselecting Saturn, but the cpu-meter displayed it's 101% for the rest of the session.

That's the one thing, and then there's another one where i'm not really sure whether i understood it the right way. After the cpu limit warning I just tried to change the Saturn Preset and it just gave me the warning again. I played around a little, trying to get it back to work again, but with no luck. Only after i've disconnected the plug in everything started to work again, except for the cpu power display :D

i had another one regarding a Fabfilter Plugin. The Pro Q caused a"heavy"crash 2-3 times when i changed the resolution and/or speed of the realtime analyzer while the song was running.Heavy because it freezes immediately and even a forced quit (from the home section)didn't work.It was still in the background.I had to start auria again,it crashed immediately but then i was able to quit it in the background as well.

Yeah, maybe not a bug per se, but i'm unable to use the HQ mode in Saturn on an iPad 3. The plug in seems to be quite cpu heavy actually, but i'm more than happy with it regardless.

I think the most interesting thing about Auria is that i have to change my work style completely. With a normal DAW i'm able to put every effect into a sound until i find something that i'm looking for. But with Auria, i actually have to concentrate on one plug in until it does what i want it to do. Although this limitation seems to be a bit frustrating at first, it' can be really helpful in other ways. I get to know what i am doing, as a requirement :D

I'm not sure that's a bug. If you turn off HQ mode, or other modes that are talking a lot of CPU, it should return to normal. Also, make sure you're not in MAX CPU mode. This will not reset until you click it again.

I'll let FabFilter know about the other bug.

Thanks,
Rim

Oh, it's 191% by the way ^^ and it freezes every single time there once i'm maxed out.

Ah, now i got it. It was just a display option ^^ Sorry for the confusion. I clicked on it and everything got back to normal.

But i'm still not able to use the HQ mode, even when Saturn is the only plug in in the whole project.

That's right. It's very easy to overload the system when using some of these advanced options. I assume you're not using an iPad 4?

We'll see what they come out with ;) On an iPad4, we've found that you get almost 3x the processing power over an iPad2 or 3.

That's sick and you're actually wondering what's that for, except for highly specialised applications like Auria.

@geronimo:Don't take it personal but since i bought an ipad 4 now i really hope there won't be a 5 in March

But i don't think it will come in March.I think they changed their"timeline"to october now to catch the peoples christmass money.Every half a year a new ipad would drive their customer mad.And besides music theres actually really nothing that can handle the power of an ipad 4.Even games are still performing the same like on the ipad 3.IF something is coming in march i guess it will be only a little smaller, like the ipad2 again,

Ha! I wasn't exactly excited either when they announced the iPad 4 just 4 months after i bought the "new one". But i'm fine with it now, because it's just the way it is. And if a new generation makes my (Auria) experience even smoother, great :)

Especially because the update cost difference is okay imo, because the iPad holds its value quite well over the time.

ah yeah,i forgot. You have all the rights to be pissed off from apple (but quite cool that you acually don't)because you bought the ipad3"short"before they announced a much more powerful device.Anyway,i can say even with an ipad 5 and probably double the power again:the 4 would be still more than worth a purchase. At least after the release of audiobus and the purchase of some of the (cpu hungry)auria IAP's i was not happy with my ipad 2 anymore. Both are two of the most exciting things for musicians on ipad and i want to run them smooth without thinking how to divide my ressources. And the 4 delivers this without a doubt.Thats all i wanted.
