AFAIK it's not possible, you have to save the presets from each plugin. It would certainly be a nice feature though!

Yes, I found it a little bit too hit and miss. Have you tried Impaktor? I think it works better but you have to build the parts one at a time.

Voxkit is a pretty good solution. Once Auria Pro lands the workflow is going to be even better, with the audio quantize tools.

It depends on how different the sounds are, I don't think it would be possible to do it with gating for example since getting rid of the quiet sounds would be easy, but getting rid of the loud sounds less so.
