Re: Fabfilter plugins: 40% off sale until April 24th

Yes. If you make your peaks around -18 you're in good shape. No need to slam the input. You can always add gain later in the stage, but you'll be boosting a cleaner signal that will remain clean. Trying to undo noise is pretty tough. Ask me how I know that!;-) still make my share of mistakes but ea...

Re: Fabfilter plugins: 40% off sale until April 24th

What peak level are you reaching by doing that? Gating only reduces hiss while you're not putting anything into the mic, it will still be part of your signal otherwise. Yes, I'm aware of that, but once the vocal is audible the hiss is not a problem, it's only (barely) audible when there is a silenc...

Re: Fabfilter plugins: 40% off sale until April 24th

As far as taming mic hiss, better to address that at the source, do you know why your mic is hissing? That shouldn't happen. My setup is an Oktava mk319 and a Scarlett 2i4, I have a fairly quiet voice so I need to turn the gain on the pre-amp up to about three-quarters to record my voice, at which ...

Re: Fabfilter plugins: 40% off sale until April 24th

While the sale is still on what would be the best plugin's to get for a vocalist? As a noob I am still unfamiliar with what does what but I do love pressing button and turning knobs to see what they do. :D ProQ and ProC will probably be the most useful on vocals, since you are always going to need ...

Re: New update submitted, 1.142

:D Erm what's ripple editing any1 please 8) With ripple editing enabled, any edits you do on the timeline are propagated along to the end. For example you select an audio region at 30 seconds and move it one bar forward, all other audio regions (after the 30 second mark) on that track will also mov...

Re: Ultra-high resolution audio coming soon

Sadly the original links to the test on the internet are now all dead, but there is reference to this test in this link:

Audiokarma discussion

At the bottom of the post there is a list of the equipment used to carry out the test.

Re: Ultra-high resolution audio coming soon

There was an interesting double-blind test conducted by a German audio magazine about a decade ago where they gathered some hi-fi experts (writers for audio magazines etc) and used some extremely expensive equipment, including Sennheiser Orpheus headphones and high-end speakers to compare LAME encod...

Re: Fabfilter plugins: 40% off sale until April 24th

Thanks for the heads up on the sale. Which one of these plug-ins are the best ones to get? I've heard the Saturn one is similar to a harmonic maximizer, is that true? Shawn Can't comment on the harmonic maximiser comparison, but Saturn is very versatile: I have used it to add a subtle bit of colour...

Fabfilter plugins: 40% off sale until April 24th

I'm surprised this news hasn't been posted here yet :) Many of you will probably already know this from the Audiobus forum, but for those people who aren't regulars there: all Fabfilter plugins are on sale to celebrate their 10th anniversary. I took the opportunity to grab Pro MB at 40% off the regu...

Re: Synth/Keyboard app

I think it's subjective, the orchestral sounds in Music Studio are from the Sonatina soundfont, which to my ears sounds better than Sampletank's Miroslav pack - you can hear the difference for yourself in my first post above, which compares BS16i (using the same Sonatina soundfonts as Music Studio) ...

Re: Synth/Keyboard app

You need a sample based app. soundfont players are popular on iOS, a couple of good ones I can recommend are BS16i and Music Studio. BS16i supports free soundfonts which can be found on the internet, there is a pretty good one called Sonatina which has some excellent orchestral samples. Music Studio...

Re: Mixing Vocals

It's important to note the amazing arrangements though, that's really why things fit. Download the multitrack of ain't no mountain high enough and listen to the arrangement. 3 guitars,on one track, with their own space, with eq playing little part (or none) in that. Instead, chords voiced to compli...

Re: Mixing Vocals

Actually what I meant Bob (glad to hear you're enjoying your new speakers!) was adding the compressor to the master strip, to compress the whole track at once. This video explains it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjgqp7uChD4 And Old Timer might well be a good choice for this because it also adds a...
