Re: Mixing Vocals

Agreed, the last thing people new to mixing need to mess with is saturation and side chaining IMO. Here's a quick beginner guide to mixing that give you some more ideas: http://tarekith.com/assets/pdfs/Mixdowns.pdf The OP was complaining that the vocals were too separated from the rest of the music...

Re: Mixing Vocals

Also, if everything is too separated you can use some bus compression and/or tape saturation to "glue" the mix together.

Re: Best Bass plugin?

There's ifretless Bass, and also iJ Bass you might consider. I like iJ Bass, but it doesn't have MIDI so you have to play it via the app itself and record it with Audiobus, the sound is pretty good though.

Here's a video from The Sound Test Room demoing iJ Bass:

Be patient, it's better to ship a little later if it means fewer bugs. Software development is not easy.

Guitarists: Flying Haggis amp sim

I wouldn't normally pimp an app, but I think this one is well worth checking out: Flying Haggis It's only $6.99, no IAPs (everything comes included), very clean interface, and most important of all the sound is really good, as good as BIAS IMO. Can be used as an input or effect in Audiobus, and you ...

Re: Made for iPad from Focusrite

I have a question for Katherine:

how does the monitoring work on this if there is no mix knob? With direct monitoring how do you control the playback level of the DAW vs the live vocal or instrument?

Re: Rough Side by Side for Vocals. Mics and/or Audio Interfa

Thanks very much for these comparisons - they're very useful.

I am looking to buy an interface for vocals, and the Focusrites were on my list, but I also already own the Sonic Port Line 6 so it was interesting to hear that with a microphone amp going through it, another option to consider.

Re: Auria Upgrade Cycle

Generally in iOS you buy the app once and all future upgrades are free. While this is great it does mean less revenue for devs so in many cases new features are added via in-app purchases, and in some rare cases apps are abandoned and a whole new app is released as the next version.

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

That's pretty disappointing. I was hoping for an interface that could be used without a powered hub (which the 2i2 requires), but it seems my wait is set to continue.

Re: Record IAA effect into auria

Alternatively you can solo the track and then do a mixdown, at which point you will be offered the option of automatically importing the mixdown to a new track. Once that's done you can delete the original if you wish.

Re: Ipad Air 128GB and Auria V Mac Mini and Pro Logic X

Yes, Auria can sync clocks with other apps, especially handy for drums and sequenced parts. And Audiobus is absolutely essential if you want to make music on iOS, without it you would be very limited indeed.

Re: Ipad Air 128GB and Auria V Mac Mini and Pro Logic X

The included stuff is plenty to get started with, the additional IAP plugins are icing really. The standard install of Auria comes with a channel strip which has a gate/expander, a paramatric EQ, and a compressor. There is aslo a master strip with a brick wall limiter. You get two types of reverb, i...

I haven't tested this, but it might be possible to do this with Apollo, which is an app for doing MIDI over bluetooth.
