Re: MicPort Pro from CEntrance. Any thoughts?

The CEntrance isn't class compliant, so it won't work with an ipad anyway.

Re: MicPort Pro from CEntrance. Any thoughts?

Yes, I had one, I sent it back, the mic pre was very noisy at any reasonable gain levels. The ASIO drivers were poor too, which is of no relevance to the iPad. I didn't try it on an iPad, it was a few years ago.

Re: Blue Snowball vs. Blue Yeti vs. Apogee Mic ?

I haven't had a Focusrite interface since the Saffire56 came out. I thought it was mediocre and the drivers were unusable. However, that was a long time ago - plenty of people using Focusrite interfaces here who are very happy with them. All the MFi (Made For iOS) Focusrite interfaces have a direct ...

Re: Blue Snowball vs. Blue Yeti vs. Apogee Mic ?

I can't help much but... I bought a Blue Snowball a while back. It was, IMHO, rubbish. I later bought a Blue Spark Digital. While the mic capsule is good, the electronics are not great. I also had one of the other cheap Blue mics (Snowflake). It was truly terrible. And I have a Tiki, and that's hope...

Re: Made for iPad from Focusrite

Katherine, All the iPad specific interfaces which Focusrite do (iTrack Dock, iTrack Solo and iTrack Studio) have a direct monitor button, which does not allow the balancing of input and playback volumes. This is a serious oversight. It is ONLY the iPad specific (MFi) interfaces which are able to cha...

Re: Charging iPad

Just bought the Plugable 4 port hub, and it will only charge the iPad when the iPad is connected to one of the four 'A-type' sockets. Unfortunately, to use the iPad with an external audio interface or Midi keyboard, you need the iPad plugged into the single upstream 'Mini-B-type' socket and this doe...

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

@dominicperry would a Sound Devices interface be worth the investment? Hard to say. The USBPre2 needs a powered hub to work. The MixPre-D is, I'm sure, very good (based on my experience with the MixPre (1st version) and the USBPre (1st version). But it won't give you zero latency monitoring for ove...

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

BGR is using Line Audio Design CM3. Good mics. Condensers.

Cloudlifter sadly not appropriate for them.

Re: Considering a self-powered audio interface?

Dominic your last statement about the mixpre D is incorrect. I've the mixpre D and the return from the daw/auria goes back through the usb/iOS connector and back to the mixpre D and monitored through the headphone output of the mixpre D. The mixpre D has AD/DA convertors. It's exactly the same as a...

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

I have the original 'One'. It's good, but apart from being only one channel, so no good for your stereo recordings, it isn't very clean at the top of the gain range. No idea about the new 'One'. The Duet needs an external power supply. Never heard one, but lots of people have good things to say abou...

Re: Considering a self-powered audio interface?

You have two different sets of figures here. The MixPreD has 66dB of mic gain available. I don't know what the phrase 'Mic to Line' is meant to mean, but I know the MixPreD is 66dB of gain. I have a MixPre (without the 'D') and that has 66dB of mic gain. The 'nominal input level' is something differ...

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

If you are happy with the functionality and reliability of the 2i2 (ie if it has enough channels and works at low enough latencies for you), then perhaps the best thing to do, as long as you aren't too fussed about portability, is to buy a dedicated mic-pre (one or two channels) and feed the line le...

Re: Avantone mixcube

Don't buy Avantone Mixcube(s) as your only monitor(s). They are meant to test what a mix will sound like on a crappy radio or similar consumer device. Buy some full range monitors as your first purchase. All this cable is doing is summing stereo signals to mono for the purposes of monitoring on a si...

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

No, a minus figure means attenuation. And a positive figure for the low number jut means you can't reduce the gain below that level.

Re: Question about Focusrite PreAmps.

Yup, that's what it means.
46dB is a feeble amount of gain for a mic-pre. I have no idea why they thought that would be enough.
